UL Solutions Qualified Firestop Contractor Program

The FCIA Accreditation Committee collaborated with UL for more than two years to develop the UL Solutions Qualified Firestop Contractor Program (UL & ULC QFCP)*. The UL-ULC QFCP is an independent, third-party Specialty Firestop Installation Contractor accreditation program.

Launched in 2007 and now widely specified in MasterSpec and SpecLink and specifications at leading architectural firms worldwide, the program was developed to establish a measurable international standard for installation quality and safety among Specialty Firestop Installation Contractors worldwide that could be specified to ensure improved fire- and life-safety in buildings.

Through accreditation under the UL-ULC Qualified Firestop Contractor Program, Specialty Firestop Installation Contractors can set themselves apart as experts in their field, while offering specifiers, AHJs, building owners and managers a quantifiable qualification of the firm. In addition to passing a rigorous firestop exam, the UL or ULC Firestop Exam, the accreditation program requires a Management System (MS) audit to verify that the contractor continuously ‘does what they say they do’ in their Management System Manual as part of the company culture. This results in consistent outputs of the contractor company’s work.

*The UL Qualified Firestop Contractor Program is open to all Specialty Firestop Installation Contractors operating outside Canada. The ULC Qualified Firestop Contractor Program is specific to those Specialty Firestop Installation Contractors operating in Canada.
