FCIA Education and Committee Action Conference - On April 30, May 1 & 2, FCIA will travel to Las Vegas' Embassy Suites Hotel, (702-795-2800, $119/nite) across from Hard Rock Cafe & Casino, for it's Education and Committee Action Conference.

The Program Committee has lined up an action packed Agenda where we'll hear about Firestop Education Programs for installers; Ray Bizal, NFPA's Western Regional Manager, will present the new NFPA 5000 Code; FCIA's Code Consultant Bill Koffel's Spring FCIA update; you'll hear about FCIA's involvement in ASTM, ASME, and much more. Print the FAXBACK form, call the hotel and get registered by visiting the FCIA Website.

Sponsorships are available to all members to support the sessions and golf tournament.

NEW FCIA Officers & Directors - Tom Hottenroth (Firestop Solutions) Roger McKenzie, (McKenzie Insulation, Inc.) and Bob Patton, (FireSafe Systems) have volunteered their time, resources and energy to give back to the industry as FCIA Board Members for the next 2 years. Ray Usher, (Superl, Inc.) was elected Vice President/President Elect, Bob Patton, Treasurer and Roger McKenzie, Secretary. Thank these dedicated individuals for their commitment at the ECA Conference in Las Vegas.

Committee Activity - FCIA Committees have been active since the FCIA "Firestop Industry Conference" in Nashville:

Marketing Committee - Don Murphy, Chair (PPMI Firestopping), Bill Hoos, (JHC Passive Fire Protection Partners), Mike Wellons, (Firestop Carolina) met February 10 at Underwriters Laboratories, Northbrook, IL to discuss 2003's Committee Mission, activities to promote FCIA, and Passive Fire and Life Safety Protection. Watch for the FCIA Member "Toolbox" to help members grow their businesses. The committee toured UL's Fire Protection Laboratory, and met with IFC's Marketing Committee to promote our industry. Thanks again, Rich Walke, UL, for the conference faciites at UL.

Technical Committee - Mike Dominguez, Chair (Firestop Specialties Inc.) and the group teleconferenced twice in January to respond to CSI's proposed changes to MasterFormat (TM). Our industry asked that the title where firestopping resides, "Passive Protection" be changed to "Passive Fire and Life Safety Protection" which reflects what FCIA Members provide the industry. They are meeting next week in Miami to produce new material for FCIA. Call Mike Dominguez at 305.871.2320 if you want to join the committee and work with them.

Program Committee - This group, led by Bob LeClair (A.F. Underhill, Inc.) has twice met to organize schedules and speakers for FCIA's 2003 Conferences.

Accreditation Committee - Aedan Gleeson, (Gleeson Powers, Inc.) has volunteered to chair an ASTM Standard Development Committee for inspection firm qualification. This program will be much like FM 4991, but for inspection firms. FCIA, Fire and Life Safety Protection will benefit from a highly qualified inspector force.

FCIA Future Conferences - If you have ideas for great programs for upcoming Conferences, please reply to this email so the program committee can review the suggestions. Or, send an email to bill@fcia.org .
