FCIA & UL University
The “Total Fire Protection Systems Symposium”
at UL is an extension of a program FCIA has presented at the Construction Specifications Institute, (CSI) Show & National convention the past 2 years. We’ve taken our “Compartmentation Symposium”, and extended it to “Total Fire Protection”, added a tour of the UL Fire Test Facility, with the following presenters assembled:
- Effective Compartmentation – Fire resistance rated construction, floors, walls and ... Openings that are protected
- Fire Walls – Gypsum (Gypsum Assoc. Representative) , Concrete Block
- Fire Floors – Concrete (by National Concrete Masonry Association representative for Block, concrete)
- Firestopping – FCIA, Bill McHugh, FCIA Executive Director
- Fire Rated Glazing – Fire Rated Glazing Industry – Tom Zaremba
- Fire Dampers
- Fire Swinging Doors – Door and Hardware Institute – Bill Johnson, DHI
- Fire Rolling Doors – Door and Access Systems Manufacturers Assoc.
- Structural Steel Fireproofing – Hugh Dudley, National Fireproofing Contractors Assoc.
- Fire Alarms
- Fire Suppression
- Fire Education – Fire Marshal
The objectives of this program are:
- To ‘get the word out’ about total fire protection, that all are important, with each technology presenting existing, new and innovative technologies in the industry.
- Create an education program that includes the ‘passive’ industry of Effective Compartmentation, Structural Steel Fireproofing and the 'active' industry' of suppression and alarms & detection.
- Get ready to launch the program throughout North America.
FCIA’s target audience for this program is those who specify and enforce protection in buildings :
- AHJ’s – Fire Marshals, Building Code Officials nationally.
- Architects/Specifiers – Leading specifiers have been invited.
Each presenter will have about 30 minutes to present the important pieces of their industry from technology, to the industry’s quality process, (installation, inspection) specification and maintenance, with the idea that the specifier / enforcement official can take home an understanding of what’s important to remember from each industry. We hope at the end of the day, attendees believe that all types of fire protection are important.
