FCIA / IFC at "The CSI Show" - On April
9 - 11, 2003, FCIA Members Ray Usher & Justin Roy (SUPERL,
Inc.) Randy Bosscawen, (MultiCon Fire Containment), Jay Maguire
(Firestop Technologies), Don Murphy, (PPMI Firestop, Inc.)
Lance Simms and Guy Williams (FFI Firestopping, Inc.) all
staffed the jointly shared IFC / FCIA booth. Over the 3 days,
we had about 175 visitors. Architect, Specifier and Facity
Manager attendees received the FCIA Specification and FM 4991
information to review. FM 4991's "contractor quality"
perspective was a big hit with the specifiers. Thanks to all
for staffing the booth from the FCIA Marketing Committee!
FCIA at The NFPA Show - FCIA will be displaying in
Dallas, TX at the NFPA Show May 18 - 20. (www.nfpa.org) We'll
need FCIA Members to staff the booth May 18, (4:30 - 6:30p)
May 19 (10:30a to 3:30p) and May 20 (8:00a - 11:00a). FCIA
Members can work the whole show, or just a few hours on whatever
day you have available. Respond to this email to volunteer
your time, or call Bill Hoos, Marketing
Committee Member, at 973.316.5998.
FCIA Members at ASTM Meetings - Don Sabrsula, (FireSafe
of Houston) and Randy Bosscawen (MultiCon Fire Containment)
attended meetings at ASTM's committee program in Kansas City
earlier in April. Don continues to work on the ASTM Standard
for the inspection of Fire Resistance Rated Joint Systems,
while Randy is working on an "Inspector Firm Approval
Standard", much like FM 4991, but for firestop inspector
firms. Contact either Don or Randy if you want to be involved
in these new programs. Visit the memberlist
for their contact info.
"FCIA Member and FM 4991 Approved Contractor"
Specifications Appearing - FCIA Members around the country
are reporting that FCIA Membership and FM 4991 Approval is
appearing in specifications. As ARCOM's MasterSpec and BSD
SPECLink subscribers begin to use the new firestop spec on
projects, more of these FM 4991 Requirements will show up
in construction documents. Aedan Gleeson, Accreditation Committee
Chair, states "Architects are enforcing the FM 4991 requirement
more and more. It's a great quality program for improving
your business, and speaks volumes to your commitment to life
safety when you do get approved". See our online list
for current FM
4991 Contractors, and descriptions of the program.
FCIA Education and Committee Action (ECA) Conference
- We're only 2 weeks away from Las Vegas and the FCIA ECA
Conference. There's still time to get involved! Visit the
FCIA
Website, download the FAXBACK Form, call the airlines,
hotel and join us. Great last minute fares are available.
(Chicago to Las Vegas at about $200) The education program
alone is worth your time! Not on a committee yet? Contact
the committee
chair.
Address Corrections - We're doing corrections to our
FCIA Member database and website. Please take a look at your
listing,
and respond to this email with changes. We receive about 1700
visits per month...mainly to these pages. Check your company
description and be sure it's enticing to a potential client.
FCIA Firestop Industry Conference (FIC) - FCIA's FIC
dates have changed slightly. To avoid conflicts with election
day, we've moved the date to November 12 - 15, 2003. Bring
your family to Walt Disney World's Contemporary Resort, Orlando,
Florida! Seminars will be organized to not lock you into meetings
all day, every day. Watch for more info on this key FCIA Event
after the Education and Committee Action Conference in Las
Vegas.
