FCIA's Technical Committee Members - Louie Cimino, Robert Gomez, Chair Mike Dominguez (Firestop Specialties, Inc.), Kevin Keeney (C.L. Downey Construction, Inc.) and Bill McHugh, Executive Director, met at "FCIA Florida Keys Headquarters". Accomplishments include revisiting the "Mission" of the committee, producing parts of the new "FCIA Installer Education Module" publication, and producing the first "FCIA Standard Answer".

The FCIA Firestop Installer Education modules will be used by member firms to educate their employees about firestopping and it's Life Safety "zero tolerance" installation protocol.

The FCIA Standard Answer program is to provide FCIA Member firms with credible "3rd party answers" to common technical questions Firestop Contractors answer frequently. Watch for more of these in the future.

FCIA Accreditation Committee - Aedan Gleeson, (Gleeson Powers, Inc.) Chair, Randy Boscawen, (Multi Con Fire Containment) and Don Sabrsula (FireSafe of Houston) teleconferenced about development of a "Inspector Firm Standard", a "FM 4991 type program for inspection firms.

FCIA's Education and Committee Action Conference - This year's spring meeting is in Las Vegas at the Embassy Suites Hotel, by the Hard Rock Casino. The Program Committee has an action packed program assembled, with Bill Koffel, FCIA Code Consultant, Education Curricula Tours at Carpenter and Insulator facilities, and Ray Bizal, NFPA Regional Manager speaking to us about the NFPA 5000 Code. Committee work is a small part of this meeting! Visit the FCIA Education and Committee Action Conference Link to register.

Sponsorships are still available (but filling up) to all members for meetings - golf.

Industry Issues - FCIA and the Passive Fire and Life Safety Protection industry's common passion is effective use of compartmentation AND a sprinkler system to protect a building's occupants and contents. The industry would include FCIA, IFC, The "Alliance for Fire and Smoke Containment and Control - Gypsum manufacturers/Institute, AWCI, Fire Door Manufactures. Check out their website for more info.

The AFSCC is sponsoring a "firesafety summit meeting" on Wednesday, April 2, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Rosemont "A" room, Hyatt Hotel, O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. The purpose of the "summit" is to generate financial donations for the AFSCC PR Campaign.

FCIA Code Consultant - Bill Koffel, Koffel Associates, FCIA Code Consultant has been rehired to represent FCIA in the code development process. Bill has been honored by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, as it's President for 2003. He understands all facets of the fire protection industry, which is important to FCIA and the "Passive Fire and Life Safety" industry's future.

Bill McHugh, FCIA Executive Director
