Life Safety Digest
The National Association of State Fire Marshals, (NASFM) spoke to FCIA at the Education and Committee Action Conference in Las Vegas, about how important all aspects of Fire and Life Safety are to our families who work, live, and are educated in buildings. The key points to Total Fire Protection according to NFPA and referenced by NASFM during the presentation included the use of the following:
- Effective Compartmentation – Fire resistance rated walls, floors, with firestopping, fire dampers, fire doors, fire glass protecting openings.
- Detection and Alarms – Notification helps us protect ourselves and families.
- Education of Occupants – How to get out of a building safely means education.
- Sprinklers – Sprinklers help control fires.
As FCIA’s newest initiative to improve safety in buildings, FCIA is introducing The Magazine for Effective Compartmentation, the new voice for the many critical components in buildings….penetrations and joint protection, fire resistance rated walls and floors, doors & hardware, fire and smoke dampers, fire glass, all aimed at educating about fire resistance rated compartments in buildings.
